Our outing last night at Port Lockroy was in heavy snow. Our other objective here was to drop off several scientists who would spend the next four months on the island.
The zodiac cruise was chilly with near whiteout conditions. We saw two islands of Gentoo Penguins, but two icebergs were more visible and interesting to see and are truly blue as most of the air bubbles have been squeezed out, making them so dense that only blue wavelengths penetrate the ice.
This mornings visit to Pettermann Island was cancelled due to high winds and a driving snow/rain. We are moving to what we hope is a better weather location, so far the visibility id low and there’s heavy precipitation.
