Packing for the big Trip!

It’s a few days before our trip and packing has started. This trip has to be better planned than normal as we move from moderate temperatures in Buenos Aires, Argentina to cooler weather in Patagonia and eventually to cold weather in Antarctica and the Falkland Islands interspersed with warm weather on our ship.

Layers, wool, waterproof, the three rules for Antarctica. The two hour landings each day require a warm underlay of clothing, wool socks, long underwear(either wool or synthetic) and then light pants and a nice sweater/fleece followed by a waterproof shell, pants and boots (provided by the ship). Gloves and a head covering like a balaclava complete the outfit. You will see photos of ourselves “geared up” around Nov 10 (Kathy’s Birthday!) as we take our first sojourn onto the seventh continent.

Layer 1
Layer 2 makes it very toasty in SoCal!
Layer 3 is all about waterproof (for the Zodiac ride from the ship to the Continent)
