It’s All About the ice!

As the morning expedition came to a close, we couldn’t see the last adventurers, just a few hundred yards away due to the snow. I felt that our second expedition later in the day was probably going to be cancelled. Sure enough, the Captain said that the second outing was cancelled but they were working on an alternative.

We repositioned to Wilhelmina Bay which was full of ice flows. The snow continued, but it was clearer than the last spot. We were suddenly told that we would go for an ice cruise on themZodiacs. We quickly got into our gear (we’re down to about 15 minutes) and headed down to the launch area.

Soon, we were cruising the ice fields, seeing such amazing formations and some blue ice. We then spotted a leopard seal on an ice floe and got some shots of this large beast that eats up to 15 penguins a day! We very much enjoyed the 30 minute ride through the ice fields with several snowy petrels overhead. New adventures tomorrow!

Your photo of the blue ice is simply amazing…and I don’t use that adjective lightly. I am looking forward to the next time we can meet with you and Kathy and hear of your adventures in person.
