Let’s be clear, I don’t have that nasty freeze headache after eating too much ice cream. No, I’m now obsessed with Gelato. After a visit to Rapanui a few minutes ago, I’m afraid of these thoughts….diving into a large vat of chocolate gelato, having gelato at every meal, creating a new “green” food group, yes GELATO!
First of all, I deserved splitting what we thought to be a regular sized cup of gelato after a 19,000 step day. The serving ended up as three flavors and the cup turned out to be sort of a jumbo size. Inside the dish was a very healthy 80% dark chocolate serving plus tiramisu and topped with chocolate pistachio.
Our restaurant server was refreshingly honest when asked “Do I order your gelato or do I go elsewhere? He pointed us to Rapanui. Enough said. Broccolino was our restaurant, serving traditional Argentinian food, PIZZA! And all of you thought that fresh grass fed beef was the Argentinian specialty! Well it is , but in competition with Pizza and Gelato. The population of the country, some 46 million citizens, consists of very few indigenous peoples and lots of Europeans mostly from Italy, Spain and Germany. About half of that population is packed near Buenos Aires, the rest is scattered throughout this eighth largest land mass on Earth.
Of course our meal was complemented with a mixed salad and a very tasty Nicosia Malbec. Apparently Argentina also grows an excellent viognier white grape but its mainly known for the trusty Malbec. Well, time for bed and an early morning birding! Yes, more bird photos are coming!
